Welcome to Laser Lowdown, the All Things Laser podcast, with your host Louie Alvarez.

Laser Lowdown, the All Things Laser podcast

A major incident occurred with a customer, fortunately based here in Las Vegas only a couple miles from my office, which required an extremely prompt response. Being so close in our isolated desert city, I was able to personally oversee the incident within about 15 minutes.

The occurrence was a fire last Wednesday, that occurred a second time two days later on Friday, this prompted me to take this topic and expand on the necessity of safety when using a laser system, especially when vector cutting materials, in this case acrylic. So listen in as I explain laser safety, when a fire happens, what causes it, how to prevent it, what to do if it happens to you.

  1. Yes indeed, cutting any material could cause this as the nature of cutting is the material will flame up. Without an Air Assist or constant monitoring this could happen to you laser :(
